On Friday, SteveR, his Son Travis, RichardR and I met up at MRA's Lilly Prairie [outside Jacksonville] for a casual puttsy ride. It was quite the potential torrential on the day prior, so we knew there would be plenty of puddles peppered everywhere. As we got ready, the granite side had plenty of fog, but everywhere else was sunny - perfect for another great day of riding!
We only got a few miles from Lilly Prairie, when Steve thought he dropped a dime and had to pick it up. We then continued on the granite side of things and eventually made our way down to the Pair A Dice Staging Area. Other than some places with erosion issues, the trails weren't all that bad. We did come to a spot where a buck suddenly jumped up from alongside the trail (see video) with a huge gash in its left-rear hip and a broken, right horn. It jumped up, then slowly walked in pain away from us as we watched. Richard later surmised that we possibly interrupted some mountain lion in the middle of its lunch and the lion was probably waiting just out of sight to finish its kill - yikes!
We made our way back to the Prairie and the fog and skies opened up to display the spectacular Fall colors.
After a brief sandwich break, we then headed on the west side trails. Of course it was a bit more sloppy, but traction was still good enough and Steve and I made plans for certain areas of future trail work.
At the end of the day we all had a great time, no injuries and no breakdowns - perfect!

You don't stop riding because you grow old, you grow old because you stop riding.
