Riding Along all these years
From My 1983 XR200 times, somewhere before 1997
From the gravel road to where trailers were to be parked over winter
In Zig Zag Oregone
when 17 riders camped sans power, water. or light along the storage access road
In Pickup trucks, the first night in dry sleeping bags, the second night in soaked ones
HAH, we went along up and over, narrow creekside rim pathways
Into the desert side of Oregon.
Seeing the winch points along the Barlow Trail
Where wagons from the East clamored
To get west
From the old woman's grave closer to the now asphalt jungle of PortLAND or
Whatever you want to call that place
See you on the other side of surveyors ridge somewhere dear sweeper
Bin Going Backwards again, I am
After lunch I went the wrong way again
Climbing up that powerline south of "town" of O'Dell
I got most of my spark plugs in the coffee cans test,
Yet i had a thin sandwich and some lemonade
to get me through, over the top, way off the course
As Always
That day... I did those extra miles
That I do every time I git around Tawm and his crew
I got to start early to get in late
I have so many wrong turns I got to make
Knowing Dans back there somewhere
Sweepin up fast
With a dull butter Knife
The old XR has a dial Resettable Odometer
I come in with all Zeros on Fumes
Worn out and a good time

Hey, this year's Black Dog is the 30th year. Will you be there?
You don't stop riding because you grow old, you grow old because you stop riding.
